How to wear a scarf in your hair?

Summer is here, and this year more than ever, the scarf tied in the hair is in the spotlight! It suits every hair style, whether long, short, straight or curly, it will add character to your hairstyle. If originally, the scarf was used to protect oneself from the weather, it has become a real fashion accessory and offers an almost infinite choice of flamboyant colours and prints. Here at Shaeri, we've come up with a few tips and ideas on how to wear a scarf in your hair this summer!

First of all, it is important to choose a scarf according to your hair type. If you have fine, straight and/or flat hair, choose fine and delicate scarves such as silk or transparent scarves. On the other hand, if you have voluminous, curly, frizzy or kinky hair, choose thick, solid scarves.

Some fairly classic but timeless hairstyles:

The ponytail scarf:

You can simply make your usual ponytail and wrap a scarf around it and let it hang elegantly to the sides. If you want a better hold, you can use a ponytail. You can use this same technique to make a fairly high half ponytail and leave the rest of your hair loose.

The scarf in the hair worn pirate style:

Place your scarf on a flat surface, make sure there are no creases and then fold one side over the other to form a nice triangle. Then simply wrap the scarf around the top of your head and tie it behind your head under your hair.

The scarf in the bun:

This hairstyle is a quick way to transform your look with a colourful twist. All you have to do is make your bun on top of your head, secure it with an elastic band. Then fold your scarf into a wide band and wrap it around your bun. To secure the scarf, you can either tie a simple knot or tuck the lengths under the elastic.

 Headband style scarf :

For a retro look, first make a messy bun. Then fold the scarf in half widthways to create a long, wide band. Then place the scarf on the back of your head and wrap it around the front of your head. To secure the whole thing, ideally you should tie a simple knot in the centre, or on the side..

Scarf incorporated in a braid:

This hairstyle requires you to be at least a little comfortable with using a scarf in your hair, but don't panic, a little practice and you'll easily get the hang of it! First, make a low ponytail and then cover the elastic used at the base of the ponytail with the scarf. Next, braid your hair, separating the hair into three sections and integrating the lengths of the scarf into the two outer sections. To finish the hairstyle, secure the scarf with the end of the hair with a discreet elastic and voilà!

Scarf with a bunch of afro curls in an Iroquois crest style

During the summer, the curls weigh heavily and sometimes warm the back of your neck. So whether you want to lift them up for a bit of coolness or pull them up for more volume, opt for the curly bouquet hairstyle!

To do this, fold your scarf in half to form a triangle and place the wider part over your neck. Bring all your curls up to the top of your head and then tie the two ends at the nape of your neck, going around your head. You'll get a transverse volume effect from the back of your head to your forehead, with a few curls that fall back to your forehead.

Turban scarf :

This hairstyle requires a very large scarf, which you can use to cover your entire head of hair. Take the two pieces of scarf and tie them in a simple knot on your head. Next, you need to twist the two sides and wrap them around the knot. Finally, you just need to wedge the remaining lengths under the knot.

Tying a scarf in your hair to protect it at night

Aesthetic during the day, the scarf in the hair can also be very practical at night! Whether you have long, curly or hard to detangle hair, a scarf will save you from spending too much time in the morning trying to detangle it. Silk scarves are especially useful for curly, frizzy or afro hair to protect their curls and prevent them from becoming damaged.

Wearing a scarf in your hair is no longer a secret for you now!
