How to moisturise your hair?

Just like we need to hydrate ourselves on a daily basis, our hair naturally needs water. Curly hair is also known to be very thirsty! Crazy frizz, poorly defined curls, puffy hair that is difficult to detangle are often signs of a lack of hydration. So, whether they have been dehydrated by coloring, straightening or by the use of the hair dryer or the straightening iron, you will find here valuable advice to teach you how to properly hydrate your hair.

The right products to use

The choice of products is crucial if you want to have well-moisturised hair. Of course, the range of so-called moisturising products is wide, but nothing is better for your hair than natural products! Avoid shampoos that contain sulphates and/or alcohol as they will tend to dry out your hair.

We recommend 3 moisturizing agents that you can easily find and use:

Aloe vera gel: it will allow you to deeply moisturise your hair, as aloe vera is able to retain water in the hair fibre. It will make your hair softer, as long as you don't use too much gel to avoid a "cardboard" effect.

Vegetable Glycerin: a moisturizing and humectant agent, it will facilitate a long hydration. It allows you to absorb humid air by retaining it on your hair, quite practical!

Flaxseed gel is a natural moisturising agent, it can even be homemade and will help you tame your frizz. It can be used as a substitute for aloe vera and should be massaged into the scalp at the roots. It does not grease the hair!

Now, get in the kitchen: open your fridge and cupboards wide! To moisturise your hair, you can make your own moisturising mask using honey, fruit compotes, dairy products and agave syrup, among others. Simply mix these ingredients together and ideally apply the mask to damp hair after shampooing.

The right hair routine to adopt

To properly moisturise your hair, it is necessary to introduce moisture at every stage of your routine: during washing, styling and maintenance. To do this, you can find the products mentioned above in different forms: in shampoos, creams, moisturising milks, sprays, treatments or masks...

Weekly moisturising masks are also very important for even deeper hydration.
Finally, stay hydrated: don't forget to hydrate yourself, for obvious reasons, but also because it will help to hydrate your hair.

Some mistakes to avoid

To have well-moisturised hair, the idea is to find the right balance: you should neither overdo nor underdo it. To do this, there are several mistakes to avoid:
  • Repetitive shampoos not spaced enough apart: they will only dry out your hair and irritate your scalp.
  • Moisturizing your hair with water only unfortunately, it is not as easy to take care of our hair as a green plant. Water does not hydrate deeply, evaporates and remains on the surface.
  • Confusing lack of hydration and lack of nutrition: oils and butters will not hydrate your hair but nourish it. However, here it is a question of thirst, and not of hunger
  • Moisturizing your hair deeply every day: By moisturizing your hair abundantly every day when it is not washed, you will accumulate layers of product that will prevent your hair from breathing. On a daily basis, the use of spray or light creams is more than enough!
